Baby G is all grown up! Middle Aged Genius, our latest collab with our buds Bissell Brothers, features a dry hop triple-threat of Citra, Nelson, and Motueka along with a crisp malt foundation from Pilsner and Valley Malt wheat. More mature in ABV at 7% and a bit thicker in body, this refined IPA maintains the spry aromatics & insane crushability of its’ younger self! Notes of mango nectar, juicy pineapple rings, and a rush of ripe passionfruit delight the palate. Underneath this onslaught of tropical fruit, a creamy citrus profile adds notes of candied grapefruit, lime zest, and fresh-squeezed tangerine. Middle Aged Genius IPA is supremely guzzlable with a well-rounded mouthfeel, gentle bitterness, and smooth finish.

Appearance: Pours a cloudy goldenstraw with a one finger head that fritters away to a film before fading to a ringlet; dribbles lacing
Smell: Mango and pineapple tones with hints of passionfruit and lime
Taste: Mango and pineapple forward with a touch of shortbread malt underneath; through the middle, the passionfruit and lime flavors emerge with a sweet but biting tangerine element, after the swallow; nicely balanced finish
Mouthfeel: Medium to full body with low to moderate carbonation
Overall: A lot of complexity brought along with the hop bill here; I was expecting a more austere flavor profile that is typical with Southern Hemisphere hops but this one went in the opposite direction

This was another beer that I traded for recently with a friend, as he made a run up to there not too long ago! Haven't had anything from Bissel in ages as this was a worthy collaboration with one of my favorite breweries, as the end result was a surprisingly deep and complex beer that was easy to drink and full of subtle flavors that fully emerged once this fully warmed up.
Quite a milky appearance to this as it was cloudy and looked like liquid melon. That was appropriate since there was enough of that in the nose and even more in the taste as there was just as much lime to be had here. Lots of dankness from the Nelson and Motueka as this reminded me of a better beer from Other Half but with Plilsner Malt and wheat to make this stand up from the typical brew originating from these parts. Acrid citrus rounded out the taste as there was a subtle and piercing sharpness to be had here along with a dewy outdoors feel that felt like a forest after a vigorous rain. Lots of bite, bitterness, and body here as this was full and full-flavored throughout, although a bit more carbonation would have made this easier to appreciate.
This felt stronger than it was as it had a strong feel to it because of the hops and turbid notes. Dated 2/17 with a label worthy of both breweries, this was a solid beer that had me missing Bissel and grateful for all that Trillium's done. This was genius for someone middle-aged like me but anyone who appreciates good beer would be wise to seek this out, for all that it was worth!

It's not always obvious early, the genius qualities of some emerge later in life. And if there's a genius budding inside of you, maybe this beer is made for you. Trillium teams up with Bissel Brothers for a beer that celebrates all of us late bloomers.
Middle Aged Genius kicks off with a milky taupe hue and finishes with a pastel matte appearance. As the aromas of Citra, Nelson, and Motueka rise to the nose, their combination of citrus, wine, herb and tropical fruit are all met with a creamy scent of vanilla and cereal. And its those later flavors of cereal and cream that link up with grain starch for a full honey, light caramel and shortcake impression early on the palate.
As the flavors unfold on the middle, the branch-ripe radiance of citrus fruits allow for the character of tangerine, lemon and red grapefruit to bring a juicy cantaloup flavor. Tropical with pineapple, mango and passsionfruit, the added exotic zing of those fruit varieties trend nearly and tangy with impressions of white wine. Trending spicy and pleasantly bitter, the late taste is herbal with green tea, fresh spruce and lemongrass for balance and continued complexity.
Medium bodied and residing on the drier side of malty-dry, the balance of the beer favors the hops, carrying a bit more of a hop bite than is common for hazier IPA. But this added refreshment signals the beer closure with pine resins, peppery grasses and a gin-like warmth in a medium long aftertaste.

Pours a milky yellow in color. Head was difficult to create and went away quickly. Nose is citrusy similar to a lemon/lime smell. Taste to me was good at first but gave way to the typical oniony a lot of Hazy/NE Styles get. This is a good beer.

Pours a very hazy straw color with a white head that sizzles, then evaporates quickly. Nose has loads of mango, pineapple, grapefruit rind, lime, and passion fruit. Wow.
The taste follows the nose, with the mango, lime, and passion fruit most prominent, but there’s a nice balance provided by the pilsner malt. This is a fantastic hazy from two world class breweries.

Picked-up a four-pack of cans at Trillium in Fenway for about seventeen dollars. My forty eighth brew from these guys, collaboration with Bissell Brothers. This is excellent, wish that I got more.
