Czech Dark results from our continued, iterative focus on lager brewing. Inspired by the centuries-old tradition of lager production in Prague, this fine-tuned recipe features classic lager yeast, a grain bill of Thrall Family Pilsner Malt, Munich 1, Chocolate Malt & Carafa II, plus Saaz and Sterling hops. After extended conditioning in our horizontal tanks, Czech Dark pours an inviting rich brown with a reddish hue. Aromas of toasted whole grain bread crust and a soft touch of roasted malt character hit the nose. These flavors follow on the palate, with a sturdy bitterness and balanced sweetness with a subtle, spicy hop bite. A crisp finish keeps this medium-bodied classic refreshing and smooth to drink.

HOPS: Saaz, Sterling
MALT: Pilsner, Munich 1, Melandoidin, Chocolate, Carafa II Speziale

On tap at Trillium Brewing in Canton, MA.

This one pours a nice dark black color, creamy looking, with a fluffy head, and lots of lacing.

This smells like milk chocolate, some light roast, and some light breadiness.

This is pretty solid – Trillium hasn’t always been known for their lagers. It’s possibly a hair too sweet, without a ton of overt hop character, but the creamy chocolate character is really nice, with some very light roast and a really smooth creamy finish.

This is medium bodied, creamy, and super drinkable.

I’m surprised with how much I enjoyed this one – Trillium is possibly getting better at making lagers?

16 oz can

Pours a mostly clear dark maroon ruby red amber black with a dense creamy off white beige colored foam head. Smells like cocoa, nutty caramel, toasted bread, roasted malt, hints of dried fruit, spice, with earthy herbal grassy hops. Tastes like roasty chocolate, light nutty caramel, toasted bread, some dried fruit, hints of peppery spice, with earthy herbal grassy hops. Feels lighter medium bodied, creamy, crisp with smooth moderate carbonation. Overall a real nice Czech style dark lager.
