This one pours a very dark black color, with a small head, and not much lacing.
This smells like very roasty, with some smokey astringency and a touch of oxidation.
The later beers in this series are some of the best barrel aged stouts in the entire country – this one is not. It’s perhaps/definitely a touch over the hill, with lots of smokey bitterness and some oxidation. There’s some nice barrel somewhere in here, and a nice roasty stout base, but it’s pretty messy at this point in time.
This is kind of thin and bitter, with no real booziness to it.
This beer got much better in subsequent batches.
