This one pours a very dark black color, with a small mocha brown head, and a little bit of lacing.
This smells like caramel, dark roasty coffee, spicy oak, leathery bourbon, rich dark chocolate, and vanilla.
This is really impressive stuff. There's all the barrel-derived flavor and character - spicy oak, sweet but burly bourbon, caramel, vanilla, etc, without any boozy astringency. The light vanilla notes from the barrel in particular are wonderful. The base stout is fudgy and roasty, and well-constructed.
This is rich, and pretty thick, but not syrupy or cloying really at all - it's heavy but goes down easy. There's not a huge boozy touch to it, which is crazy considering the 15.7% ABV.
This is my first stout from these guys, and I can already tell they are very good at making them.
