The Vault Members bottle No 2. A blend of 10- and 18-month Double Absence aged in Elijah Craig, Weller, Blanton’s and Russell’s Reserve 10 barrels, finished on loads of coconut, pecan, hazelnut, and vanilla. Light-handed is not a word we would use with this one! Adjuncts pound the palate, yet this beer still maintains a semblance of balance. Unlike some adjunct stouts, this beer’s Double Absence base gives it recognizable stout qualities amidst a plethora of decadent adjuncts.

This one pours a very dark black color, with a small head, and a little bit of lacing.
This smells like sweet nuttiness, with roasted pecan, coconut cream, almond paste, milk chocolate, and some oak.
This is quite good, but WB&D’s straightforward un-adjuncted barrel aged stouts are their bread and butter. This is certainly less sweet than average pastry stout, though, with a good oaky and lightly spicy barrel character. There’s lots of nuttiness here, more pecan than hazelnut, and more coconut and vanilla than either of those things.
This is creamy, and semi-thick, with very little booziness.
I like this one a lot, obviously, but I’ll always reach for their barrel heavy bruisers more often.
