We’ve always loved Kölsch beers, and they are really, really hard to make but super easy to drink. Like cereal mixed with beer. Come to think of it, maybe this is our new breakfast beer!

This was my first Periodic Brewing beer, and as a scientist, I'm not sure what took me so long. Solid Kolsch here, light and easy-drinking but plenty of flavor. I see they were going for some sort of cereal-type thing, and I'm not sure exactly what kind of cereal that would be, but it worked out anyway. Nice one from them, glad to try others in the future.

Crystal clear, golden body; busy carbonation; nice white head; sporadic globs of foam along the glass. Faint light grain aroma. Light cereal grain base flavor with a very faint toasted quality; fairly good hop bitterness. Medium body; smooth and crisp; moderately dry finish.
A very good representation of the kölsch beer style that is quite approachable. It makes for a fine choice when you want a neutral but flavorful light beer.

not sure if it always has blood orange in it, or if this is a special edition of a house beer for the summer, but its a pretty tasty and well done blood orange kolsch. i am totally over this fruit in the pale or ipa beer styles, but in a nice light summery kolsch like this, i think it still has a lot of potential, and these guys have tapped into that nicely. it starts with a quality base beer, and they have that here, super light on the body and a mild cereal malt complexion, pils-like, and very dry. the blood orange may be real fruit but it has a light metallic element to it that makes me think its a concentrate or purchased puree of some kind, that said, its not so overdosed that the beer is either sweet or unnatural tasting, and whatever they used to infuse the fruit, is pretty competently done. i taste a nice cooler fermented european ale yeast hear, and it gives the beer a nice authenticity, almost like citrus being added post pour to a classic kolsch, not like a fruit beer outright, which i kind of dig. clean finishing too and well carbonated, my girlfriend and i both enjoyed this one. some cool beer happening in these small colorado mountain towns these days...
