this is the best beer we had in here, a session cherrywood smoked porter, and i believe winners of both gabf and world beer cup medals in session beer, which we dont often think of as darker style beers, but it makes sense, and this is excellent overall. the base porter is very solid with a slick near black look from the tap, a coffee sort of roastiness, and a smoothness of feel that extends the flavors of the grain, chocolate and molasses and char. the smoke aspect is perfect, not too much, not too little, its got a woody campfire aspect to it but is never harsh or acrid like some of these can be, and instead of overtaking other grain nuance, it highlights them here, dark chocolate and coffee and leather notes abound, and this is so smooth and rich feeling without being sweet, i can taste it for ever yet at the same time there is enough bitterness for it to finish nicely. great body to this, not heavy but sturdy for its lower abv. not sure i would want to truly session this one, but i could definitely enjoy a few pints back to back. great brew and cool to have been recognized on such large stages, i feel like these guys are still well under the denver beer scene radar...
