a belgian tripel with raspberry and passion fruit, an interesting mix of flavors to be sure, and not a base beer style we see fruited very often, but this works pretty well. i think the passion fruit element is a little overdone though, there is a tartness to this like the fruit has that seems a little out of place, like its almost a little sour, and its a lot of tropical with the fruity esters of the belgian yeast, but it sure is interesting. the raspberry stays away from being too sweet, and the base tripel is on the drier side for the style as well which i think works in its favor, honey and pils character from the grain, bright fruity and floral yeast, elderflower and white dessert wine notes, jammy raspberry at the end with the passion fruit, its pretty well layered and complex and it drinks a lot easier than its stated abv, this one snuck up on us a little bit in terms of the buzz. good carbonation and body, this feels frothy and sturdy, but has a nice summer energy about it. a cool beer, fruit in a tripel, yum.
