This is a good Red beer, so many in the NW are hoppy, which isn't bad, but trying to find a straight up Red beer is a little difficult at times. I like the caramel taste without the heavy hop flavor. It pours a nice reddish amber with an off-white head. Looks good and tastes great. Rated 12-23-2018 21 IBUs

Had it on tap. It is true to the style. Cannot add much to the other reviews, I agree with most of them. I can stress one point. The caramel taste is really strong. Totally overpowers the hops. At first I thought it is a sweet beer but as you drink it you realize it is not sweet it is just the caramel taste.
I did not find it had much smell at all. The after taste is weird, not bad and not good. Not sure what to think of it.
I suspect that is a beer that tastes much different on tap and in the bottle. On tap is a beer is usually pasteurized (heated) only once and maintained refrigerated. In a bottle is it usually pasteurized a second time after bottling. I suspect this would really change the fresh caramel flavor. I have had very aromatic beers on tap that were much flatter in a bottle.
Going to need to try and test the theory on this beer.

Pint at Sammies lottery pub in West Salem Oregon.
$5.00
Pours a clear deep red with a small tan head.
Toasted brown bread and floral hop aromas. Nice.
Taste similar to the aroma. Well balanced but mostly malty.
Mouth feel is medium..with good carbonation.
A nice change of pace.

Poured into an imperial pint, cellar temp:
Vibrant red with a frothy, cream-coloured head that dissipates quite slowly. Gorgeous to look at. I found the smell to be slightly off-putting. A funky yeast aroma may be enjoyable to some, but it reminded me of sweat. There's a warm caramel smell as well, along with some earthy hops.
Taste is mild, but does justice to the Irish Red style. The warm caramel is present, along with some rye bread notes as well. Silky and very enjoyable mouthfeel.
Overall: This could have been great. Slightly more body, and a different yeast strain could made a world of difference. I have to give this Ancestry's Irish Red a score just above average.

Clear red, yes really red, with an abundance of foam in the Stella Artois goblet. Quite sudsy in the mouth. Some grainy aroma. Very much the classic Irish Red taste-- malty, caramel sweetness, and a gummy hop note to finish.
Twiggy bitter dishwatery aftertaste, though. Still, this seems like a better than average rendition of this forlorn style with the attractive appearance and lush mouthfeel. From the 500 ml bottle purchased at Market of Choice in Eugene.

my first beer from these guys, pretty solid take on the style, which we dont see nearly as much of as we used to in craft beer, i miss a good irish red, and this hit the spot. its pretty faithfully traditional, but it does have just a little more complexity than some of these do, a faint smoke and toasted nuttiness to the grain that makes this a bit deeper, and i like that. between red and brown in color with a great head on it and less than perfect clarity. i get warm biscuit, caramel, english toffee, dark bread, and the classic irish ale yeast, the malt is awesome in here, and its not too sweet which i really like. it has a sort of baked character, but also a raw earthiness at the same time. a little thin in feel for me, and it seems gone from the palate faster than it should be, but the flavors of the grain are nice and this is well crafted overall. i like the bottles and the labels too, very identifiable branding. for a simple irish red, this was solid, i will look for more beers from these guy when i travel up that way.
edit: maybe slightly more refined now than it was back when i first reviewed it, also nice on tap, a little more from the yeast in the flavor balance, old worldy and genuine to me, distinctive even, subtle but makes this stand out from the crowd. still dont see much from these guys around, but i like this red a lot.
