Thin head, lightest of tan, no real lacing. Reddish brown colored liquid, few bubbles visible, has average to plus clarity. Very nice nutty nose with some wood smoke and lighter caramel, more minerally than evocative of sweetness, no real fruit scents that I am finding. Medium-bodied shading light, carbonation adds a drying prickle. Albeit it doesn't need it per se as it's dry enough on its own. Nutty, bready with that same minerally bite. More chocolate than caramel here, sort of powdered feel. Enjoyable toasty overall character. Very light hint of citrus. As in the nose little to no fruit flavor. I find this to be refreshing with high scores for drinkability. Is it a bit light on aroma and flavor? Sure. But that was probably the goal and the end result is quite drinkable hence the overall score, whole greater than the sum of the parts. (Crowler from brewery)

A: murky brown , dark amber color. Off-white smooth head. Looks like it’s nitro

S: carame malts, chestnuts, milk chocolate. A little weak on the aroma

T: sweet smooth caramel, mild nutty flavor, some faint flora hop notes. Not a lot in the flavor , but its very enjoyable.

M: lower side of medium, with lower carbonation

O: simple beer, but it is very nice to drink. Mild and smooth. This would be excellent on cask also. Aroma could use some work thoug

I had this on draught at the brewery. Pint pour. It pours a cloudy, cola-brown color. Surprisingly, there was virtually no head or lacing. The nose featured sweet malt, caramel, and earthy nuts. It tastes nutty up front and there is subtle chocolate and a hint of caramel. It has a pleasant, roasty flavor with some spice and slight hoppy bitterness at the finish. This ale is medium-bodied with moderate carbonation. It drinks below its 6.4% ABV; you can easily have a second pour. Overall, this is a solid Brown Ale. While nothing about it is unique, it is tasty and would pair well with a variety of foods. The Brown Ale is not a popular style but Twin Elephant has embraced it and brewed a few nice examples. I only wish Jersey Squirrel had more of a head.

On-tap @ Twin Elephant Brewing Co. in Chatham, NJ.

Served with very little head, Jersey Squirrel is brown in color and clear around the edges when held up to the light. Impressive aroma of milk chocolate, freshly baked bread, and lightly roasted malt. A hint of citrus and floral hops on the back end. Nuts and chocolate from the malt initially in the flavor, which the hops play off of very nicely. Clean and medium bodied. I could have used a little more carbonation or a fuller, creamier finish. But a nice brown ale overall. I would definitely order it again.
