Twin Elephant Brewing Co. "Old Raritan"

Dark mahogany brown/black body beneath a short head of tan. Limited lacing. Cinnamon toast and a hint of dried fruit in the nose. It's also roasty, and almost smoky. The flavor delivers sweet malt with notes of cocoa, milk chocolate, and golden caramel. There's some pepper flavor as well, and the spiciness that goes along with it. The cinnamon and spice build but never become too hot - that's a difficult trick to pull off. Chocolate lingers in the finish. Medium bodied with a smooth, creamy, seemingly natural carbonation. Great!

12 oz. draught at the brewery It pours a mahogany color with dark cola hues when held to the light. The mocha-colored head dissipated quickly leaving a sheen of lacing. The nose features lactose, nuts, roasted malt, coffee, and a hint of the pepper to come; it's highly fragrant. The taste is lactose and freshly-brewed coffee up front but the Pumpkin Habanero pepper hits fast and hard. There's nice heat but it doesn't overwhelm the other tastes. For a Porter, it's quite rich and creamy with light carbonation, and its 7.8% ABV provides a nice kick. Overall, this is an adventuresome Milk Porter with real heat from the peppers. It's hard to drink a second glass but I really enjoyed the one I had. This is a well-crafted beer and I hope Twin Elephant brews it again. Although it's a Porter it matches up well with Xocoveza. Well done!

A: dark jet color , slightly shiny. Dark tan head.

S: roasted chili right away, caramel, roasted malts, milk chocolate, lactose and oats

T: chilli and more chilli. Doesn’t burn the tongue, but you feel it on top of the mouth. Roasted malt, chocolate, lots of oats, and some lactose sweetness. There’s some cinnamon in here and some more heat on the end

M: medium mouth with low carbonation

O: definitley a chilli beer. If you’re not wanting heat don’t go for it. Could use a bit more balance
