Collaboration with Heavy Reel Brewing Co.

WOAH-HOH…Where’d you come from?! I’ve been walking next to you the entire time. We finally had the pleasure of having our shore buddies from Heavy Reel Brewing Company come through to get real weird with it and brew up a fun DIPA you can totally gargle with. Smells like Gail the Snail mixed with Milk Steak cooked on a hot plate, fruity pebbles, and dank resinous nug. Tastes like a fresh pull of that Strawberry Cough strain and a little like key lime banana cream pie with strawberries on top.

Two plus finger of bright white foam, light and frothy, retention seems good, lacign a touch wispy. While opaque the liquid is a light, bright yellow, able to see a few bubbles along the edge. Bubblegum filled nose with a sort of fruit-rollup quality to the melon, apple, pineapple scents, sweetly concentrated but not thick, echo of marijuana resin, light grapefruit, no piney nor earthy qualities, creamy texture in the nostrils. Medium-bodied, the carbonation gives the mouth entry a nice buoyancy before settling down into a mild tickle. The dankness achieves greater conistency here. Lemon, grapefruit citrus, some cracker to toasted bred crust notes. The fruit subdued and does not seem that tropical to me, more orchard fruit, neither dry nor ripe. Purchased at a local Bottle King on 8/31/22, first time I have seen Twin Elephant at retail. No can dating. Based on the dates of the other reviews here this might be a pretty old can. But that's what one gets for buying beer without dates.

Pint pour on draught at the brewery. It pours a murky, muddy tangerine color with a half finger of foamy, milky head and thick, soapy lacing. The nose is fragrant with lemon, grapefruit, orange/tangerine, bubblegum, and a whiff of red berry. It's super dank with dry, tart lemon and grapefruit, a crackery malt base, and a significant cannabis presence. I'm not tasting the melon and pineapple I'd expect from the Belma hops but the earthy, herbal notes of the Strata are strong. The Motueka also contributes citrus and spice. Only as it warms do I notice the red berry which adds a bit of sweetness. The ale is not bitter but there is a touch of hop burn at the finish. I'm enjoying the mouth feel; it's thick and creamy with lite/moderate carbonation and the 8.4% ABV gives it good substance. Overall, Roast This Bone is an adventuresome DIPA with a fairly unique hop bill. I wish there were more tropical fruit but it's still a fine offering.
