DATE: October 27, 2017... OCCASION: our first Trunk or Treat complete, time to take off the chill with something Dark... GLASSWARE: Hop Devil nonick... the populous must be asleep in this city, because the body is jet black... head pours a creamy, dimpled, single fingered light brown... first breath is of chocolate, licorice, metallic ping, cigar tobacco, grainy coffee bean, and earthy vegetable--a panoply of aromas that ends in a dank, mysterious air... a thick camouflage of lacing wraps the glass... first sip is active, textured with a fizz akin to cola, a gravel-like consistency that evokes black coffee, and a warming action that eases off its 7.1% rather fluidly... the end is particularly bitter, almost like finding a coffee filter let you down... the flavor profile has some chocolate and licorice in it, while the coffee bitterness is overstated... no doubt this beer comes ready to entertain, and its amped-up profile does demand attention... but the caustic bitterness challenges as the glass drains, and the earthiness cloys enough to detract from the experience....

A- Dark, shiny with a 2 finger tan head. Nice Lacing
N- Straight up smoke, although not a smoked porter
T- Thick for a porter, which I really like. Little slick. Dry, but not roasty. Tons of fresh coffee
Overall- Not a lover of porters, but this is delicious. Coffee, maybe a bit of cinnamon. Highly recommended. Will get again
