I did not have a ChANce to CANpletely finish my Happy New Summer in the Dark with a Beer in the City Sunday (Week 757) with a brewery horizontal from Asbury Park, NJ's Dark City B.C., including this beer as a part of The CANQuest (tm).
From the CAN: "Triple India Pale Ale with Hallertau Blanc, El Dorado, Centennial and Chinook Hops"; "Unfiltered. Store Cold. Drink Fresh."
I was a little surprised, on the Crack! of the vent, to see that it was a brimful craft CAN! I decided that, despite its being "Unfiltered", I would CANduct a slow, gentle C-Line Glug. I was happy when it formed just under two fingers of dense, foamy, rocky, tawny head with good retention. Color was a slightly-hazy Amber to Deep-Amber/Light-Copper (SRM = > 9, < 13). Nose was very fruity, tending towards tropical, but with a light citrusiness. It had a slight bubble gum cast which was both unexpected & interesting. Mouthfeel was big, thick & full, like a dollop had been scooped into my mouth & onto my tongue. 8=O Now, it had my full attention, if it hadn't before! They called this on a Triple (!) IPA & at 11.0% ABV, I was not willing to delve that deeply on Sunday. The taste was a rich amalgam of flavors, ranging from pineapple to pine to an earthiness to the aforementioned bubble gum. Wow! It quickly started to get its job done as the high ABV beCAN to kick in, reminding me to take my time with it. It was a big beer, but by taking my time with it & allowing it to warm, it became like a tropical rain forest, filled with all sorts of flavors, tastes & CANbinations. I CANnot perfectly define it, but the meshing of the many flavors was really tasty. Finish was dry with a big, boozy heat, but that was to be expected. Man, at this point, my eyes were watering from its intensity. Phew!

Sassafras. Good in a root beer but not as interesting in a brewed beer. It’s OK but nothing to make me want another.

Canned ten days ago and poured into a thick IPA glass. It's appearance is unfiltered pale orange, darker than orange juice and not creamy or as opaque as a NEIPA. One finger of fast dissipating white bubbly head.
Smell is sweet and spicy.
Taste is actually quite refreshing. This thing says 11% and it's chuggable. Thats dangerous right there... And impressive. It lives up to its name

I found this kind of funky but not in a good way. I wasn't a huge fan of this one and wouldn't seek it out again. Some citrus hops, barnyard funk, and fruits.
