A thanks to the founding father of the canquest, woodychandler, for this beer. Poured from a 16 oz. can. Despite a gentle pour, this beer resulted in an auburn color with a 3 inch head. Smell is of pumpkin, hints of spices. Taste is the same as the aroma, a bit more subdued. Feels medium bodied in the mouth and overall it ain't bad, but there are more flavorful examples of this style.

Welcome back to my Happy New Summer in the Dark with a Beer in the City Sunday (Week 757)!
This Summer was time well spent here at Chez Woody, allowing me to winnow through the backlog & assemble lots of brewery horizontals for each week's NBS. For insCANce, this week's foray into Asbury Park, NJ's Dark City B.C., including this beer as a part of The CANQuest (tm).
From the CAN: "Spiced Ale w/Pumpkin"; "Unfiltered. Store Cold. Drink Fresh."
I realize from past experience that their beers are unfiltered, but that does not mean that I CANnot strive for clarity. I Crack!ed open the vent & beCAN an extremely slow, gentle C-Line Glug into the awaiting glass. It responded with the formation of two-plus fingers of dense, foamy, rocky, deep-tan/light-brown head with good retention. Color was a slightly-hazy Deep-Amber/Light-Copper to Copper (SRM = > 13, < 17). Nose was very spicy, mainly cinnamon, but acCANponied by nutmeg & allspice. I feel naughty drinking this at the end of August instead of waiting until October, but by then, I will probably be inundated with Pumpkin Beers. Mouthfeel was medium, about on par for the style. The taste was nicely spiced, not overboard, but not quite evocative of pumpkin pie. It was not bad, but I have had better in the style. It lacked a balancing sweetness to the spice from the malt. Here is one suggestion, free of charge from yours truly - think about a lactose sugar addition. Yinz used it freely in a Berliner Weisse so why not here, where it might have a measurable benefit? Finish was dry, as should always be expected from any beer that includes spices.
