CANother retired beer! I feel lucky to even have this one for review. I discovered it in a 6-pack bottle carrier (the bane of The CANQuest (tm) since they render their CANtents invisible) buried under a pile of laundry in my basement. CANother of their CANs had exploded & a third was a duplicate that will be going to @tone77 at some point, but which is now in my beerfrigerator to prevent explosion. This one is out of the upstairs reefer, also having been kept quite cold to avoid explosion.
From the CAN: "India Pale Ale w/Blood Orange & Cranberry".
The edge is now Fall/Autumn abutting Winter, but the CANbination of Blood Orange & Cranberry puts me in mind of the recently passed Thanksgiving. I gave thanks that it had not ruptured before Crack!ing open the vent to begin a slow, gentle C-Line Glug into the awaiting glass. It foamed up to create just better than two fingers of dense, foamy, rocky, bone-white head with excellent retention. Color was a solid-Amber (SRM = > 7, < 9) with NE-quality clarity. Nose was big with orange citrusiness as well as a light, but unidentifiable, tang. Mmm. Mouthfeel was medium. The taste initially put me in mind of potpourri or a CANdle, both being used as an air freshener in the lav, but it slowly grew on me. Once I beCAN to really dig the orange-cranberry (& yes, it was easily identifiable in the taste), I beCAN to recall last Thursday's cranberry-orange glazed roast duck! I go to local eateries each Thanksgiving and as of a few years ago, I have been getting the Thanksgiving platter of turkey/ham/duck with much of it for take-away to be eaten as seCANds over the next few days. This year's duck offer was with an orange-cranberry glaze & this beer was very evocative of that flavor. Do not misCANstrue it to mean "sweet" or even "semi-sweet" as this had a slightly tart dryness that was quite pleasant. It was probably less an AIPA than a Fruit & Field Beer, but that is a haggle for CANother day. It finished with that selfsame slightly tart dryness with a lingering fruit quality. Yum! YMMV.
