Dark murky appearance with an appealing thin foam cap. Mild to no aroma. Very smooth on the tongue and easy to drink. Surprisingly mild bodied flavor. Slight scotch aftertaste seals the deal.

I had this on draught in the brewery. Served in a pint glass. It pours a lovely amber with orange hues with a relatively small head and lacing. The nose features roasted malt and peat with a whiff of toffee or caramel. It has a pleasing, complex taste of malt, peat, wood smoke, and a nice dose of toffee. The flavors blend together very well. This is one tasty ale! It's medium in body with pleasant carbonation, and the 6.5% ABV doesn't distract for the pleasure of drinking this ale. We enjoyed this on a warm summer day on the deck of the brewery and both the beer and experience were superb. Pine Island's Scottish Ale is a very nice rendition of the style and it stands shoulder to shoulder with the leaders of the style. It's worth seeking out!

Pours the color of a honey cedar with shadings of plum. Beautiful clarity.Foamy eggshell head simmers down to a smooth film. Emits aromas of smoky hardwood and caramel sweetness; nuances of chocolate and treacle. Shocking sweetness at first sip, caramel and chocolate dipped cherries. Cream filled cookie; lemon cherry merimgue. Delicious decadence. Party is crashed by some significant peat smokiness. It's quite shocking at first with a bit of sawdust taste. This is short lived. End result is a medium body beer with both seductive, sweet and creamy elements amidst spurts of dry bouts of smokiness. Definitely one of the 'smokier' scottish ales I've happened across. Big flavors, nice complexity.
