16 oz. pint poured at the taproom Jan. 17, 2026
L: classic black-and-tan with some nice sticking off a thin but thick layer of foam; the original pour pushed up a huge head of tan foam, almost a brown color, but the barkeep filled the glass with more beer and ultimately served it with a much thinner head; very pretty beer
S: toasted malt, coffee, dark chocolate, oak wood, damp earth ... it's got a hint of sweetness, but mostly it's a showcase of roasted malt and dark bread notes
T: follows the nose pretty closely with roasted notes galore — coffee, coffee bean, wood, charred wood, bittersweet dark chocolate and just enough sweetness to not only balance the earthier notes but to throw in a pinch of perceivable sweetness in the flavor; it's not a dessert-level of sweet, but it's very pleasant
F: solid all around, plenty of carbonation, midweight that is slightly thick but not to imperial stout levels
O: a really good roasty malty beer that is even better than their oatmeal stout; it's not exactly moreish at 7.8% ABV, but it's also not sickly sweet nor medicinally bitter ... rather, it's a really well-balanced porter that I would happily order again
