I've never had an English-style pale ale, so maybe this is what they taste like, but it certainly doesn't make me think of a pale ale. It's much too malty, with a caramel flavor and just a faint bit of hop bite. It reminds me more of an American amber actually. That's not a bad thing, it tastes pretty good, and I could certainly see it working well as a sessionable hiking kind of beer (which is what they're going for).

I have to agree with the above poster, this tastes more along the lines of a Marzen than a Pale Ale which is not bad, I happen to love Oktoberfest style beers, Spaten being my favorite BUT, I was looking forward to a PA and the hoppiness just falls short.
That said, it is actually a good beer that I will drink again.

It was okay. It reminded me of a cross between an amber ale/Vienna lager and an Oktoberfest. It seemed more malt forward and not a lot of hop presence. Nice try.
