Poured at a recent tasting form a 2L plastic bottle. According to my source, bottled in 2010, brewed in 2009. 4 oz pour into a taster's glass.
A: Reddish brown and clear, although much sediment was found in the bottle. Little head.
S: Incredibly complex, perhaps due to the age and the infiltration of oxygen? notes of chocolate bourbon, creme de cacao, dark dried fruit and a vinous quality play in the nose. Extremely enjoyable.
T: Enjoyable body with a solid malt backbone and enough residual sweetness to seem appropriate. Black cherry and heavy fruit also play strongly with a lingering earthiness.
M: A bit hot in the back of the throat. Well balanced with the sweetness and bitterness balancing nicely.
D: A definite sipper, but a barley wine I would reach for if given another opportunity to find one.
