2016 GABF Gold Medal Coffee Beer Winner
Building on Gusto Crema blend, a medium roasted bean from our friends at Caffé Umbria, we made a smooth, rich cream ale. This beer has roasted flavor, aroma, and color from cold brew coffee. Smooth, rich mouthfeel comes from oats and Munich malt.

really tasty one from these guys, on tap at whole foods, i have not seen this one before now. its a nice brew, a shade darker than i though it would be, stained a light amber shade by the coffee, and with just a short head. aroma is awesome, roasty, richer european malts and the coffee, which has obvious sweet chocolate and roasted notes to it that really stand out. i feel like coffee beers are either intensely dark on the grain side, as roasty a the coffee itself, or else they are so minimal, simple blonde and kolsch types without much character at all, this is a nice middle ground where the malt has some flavor, but the coffee is still the most robust element. i think thats what makes this one stand out. the coffee has no bitterness at all, if it does, its plenty balanced by the grain sweetness here, some light breadiness, smooth oat body, and cocoa hints make this mellow and distinctive. subtle peaks of hazelnut and vanilla in here with the coffee as well, and perhaps the faintest yeast element as well. i think this is well rounded and different, good for the fall, and with a very cool coffee profile overall. i could drink this all evening if it were just a touch drier, but no complaints, its delicious!

Pours a deep golden color with a thick white head with good lacing. Smells like lightly roasted coffee and has a similar taste with substantial lactose mouthfeel and sweetness. Interesting and delicious beer.

Taster at Growler Guys. Medium golden, small tight head. Not as creamy as it should be. Coffee dominates the aroma and taste. Nice feel, but not creamy enough.

Being a coffee ale it does not disappoint. Aroma is great, goes down nice and easy. Definitely a "coffee ale" if there was one. Color is rather amber, aroma is a coffee for sure, drinks smooth.

Clear straw color which is a surprise for a cream coffee ale. Aroma is definitely coffee and very pleasant. Taste is also a very pleasant coffee that is smooth. Well worth trying

Not the usual coffee beer (stout), instead coffee flavors infused in a light beer! As other reviewers noted, tastes like a coffee carbonated beverage more than a beer. Nice almost cold brew aroma coming off it.

Are you kidding me...I had this thing fresh off the tap at the Oregon Brewers Fest, I was skeptical at first, I'm used to coffee in my porters/stouts but something about adding coffee to a light beer doesn't seem like it would work. Well this works. The coffee smell this thing puts off...almost a shame to drink it.
