To celebrate Fort George Brewery’s Vortex Month, we brewed a mash up of our Lucille IPA and their Vortex IPA and then turned it up to the Imperial setting for a mass of whirling flavors and aromas of hella pine, rad pineapple and wicked orange zest. Contains wheat.

Hops - Columbus, Comet, Chinook, Simoce, Simcoe CO2 extract
Yeast - English Ale

8-ounce pour enjoyed at Imperial Bottle Shop, in a frankly adorable miniature mug. This beer is an imperial version of the Vorcille IPA collaboration from Fort George Brewing (Astoria, OR) and Georgetown Brewing (Seattle, WA), and comes from Georgetown.
Bright yellow gold body dimmed with a thin film of haze. The white foam up top doesn't amount to much of a head, but it lasts to the bottom of the small mug and leaves lacing like ornate wallpaper. The nose is a pungent assembly of pine and grapefruit marmalade, with a little orange and pineapple in the background. The flavor is agreeably belligerent with citrus and piny hops. There are spicy woody notes and hints of grapefruit pith, lime zest, pineapple, 7-Up, saltines, and toasted French bread with spicy honey. Not too sweet! The body is no heavier than medium, with efficient carbonation and a wave of alcohol heat that makes no attempt to hide itself.
The light body and drying finish nods toward Georgetown's Lucille IPA, while the toasty malt and pine are pure Fort George Vortex IPA. Not better than the Vorcille IPA, but a 100% worthy exploration for Vortex Month. I'm glad I had the chance to try this.
