Mostly clear deep red in color with a foamy white head that lasts forever. Bready light caramel maltiness. Earthy grassy citrus and pine to counter. Smokey almost ashy flavor is distracting.

 

 

 

 

 

 

A- Brown with a creamy off-white head. It reaches a good size with nice retention. Lots of creamy lace.

S- Very faint/bland. Light amount of caramel malt and general hop notes.

T- Herbal and floral hops on top of a brown ale like malt backbone. Malt lends caramel, toast, slight roast and nutty notes. Slight citrus tartness.

MF- Slightly watery light-end body with moderate carbonation. Somewhat bitter. A bit weak like in the IPA I just had.

DB- A fairly bland flavor overall, it doesn't really disappoint but it doesn't excite either. The herbal hops feel like they have been done before and aren't substantial to compliment the pretty good malt. Strange tang-tart-lemon thing going on like in their IPA.

Poured into SA Perfect Pint Glass

A - Beer pours a cloudy brown/amber color. What little head appears falls right back into the beer. Some lacing along the glass.

S - Hops up front with a caramel background. Some malts in the nose as well.

T - Hops up front with a nice malty background. Some nutty flavor as well.

M - Medium body with carbonation on the higher side.

D - Decent drinkability, a couple of these would down fairly easy

Sledhead Red pours a murky, dark amber with a creamy off white head on top. The foam dissolves slowly leaving behind a nice coating of lace on the glass.

The aroma is faint with sweet caramel malt notes and a touch of floral hops.

Each sip of this medium bodied beer is creamy on the palate with a firm carbonated fizz on the tip of the tongue. The flavor is well balanced, but leans to the malty side. Semi sweet caramel malt, nutty, with a floral hop bitter finish. It ends dry and once gone the hop bitterness lingers on the palate.

This is a very well balanced beer with terrific foam on top and a nice mouthfeel. It's the type of beer you could drink everyday.

Pours a two finger cream head that fades slowly and leaves some lace. Cloudy red/amber color. Good carbonation and medium bodied. Hoppy nose. Flavor is mostly hops, malts are trying to balance. Lingering bitter finish. $1.95 for a 12oz bottle from Colonial Spirits Acton, Ma.

Bought this as a cold single -- obviously out of season. Pours brownish red with some sediment and bubbles rising. Beige foamy head dissipates to a ring; spotty lacing.

Some sour cherry aromas, or cider-like elements. Some caramel maltiness.

First sip is brown breadcrust or overdone toast. Bitter, dry. Beer is a bit thin/watery in flavor, but not too much. Lingering bitter, but pleasant, finish with just some light caramel/buttery notes, but not any real sweetness. Needs some yeast or fruit or hop character or something. A bit of a misfire here.

Medium-light body, and enough carbonation. Any heavier and this would be hard to drink.

Glad I bought just a single. Not a real easy drinker alone, but probably a good neutral with food. Try if you find it cheap, or on a whim. Nothing to seek out, but nothing you'll hate.

Kennebec River- Sledhead Red

Picked this 1 up at Yankee Spirits in Sturbridge, Mass.

A- Golden amber red with a frothy good lacing head.
S- Sweet malt with a toffee/ caramel touch.
M- Thick sweet malt. Sweet cherry licorice with a good green hoppy slight bitter finish.

Overall- Tasty easy drinker.

12oz bottle purchased recently at Yankee Spirits, Sturbridge, MA.

Poured into an imperial pint glass, formed a 3/4" beige head over the cloudy reddish amber brew. Dense head lasts very well, with good coating lace. Aroma is balanced, worty with slightly earthy hops. Taste follows along, nutty malts to start, moderate fruitiness in the middle, balancing bitterness to close. Mouthfeel is pretty smooth, and drinkability is good. Overall a reasonable red.

A - Nice caramel maltiness with some light hops in the background.
A - Pours with a nice white head. Nice medium amber with just a hint of haziness.
M - Medium body and carbonation.
T - Nice caramel malt complexity with just a bit of roast flavors on the back of the mouth. Light maltiness hangs around for a while on the tongue and roof.
D - Nice malty complexity going on but still very drinkable.

really enjoyed this beer. a true maine brewery, so down to earth and down with good beers. the bottle is great, in and of itself. the generic caps you get when homebrewing, you'll find on their beers.

appearance is a nice golden red, unfiltered witha nice head that forms a thin. smell is nice as well, nice sweet malts and spices touch the nose. taste is great as well, nice buttery malt flavors, slightly bitter segueway into a real nice, strong, hop bitterness. beer has an interesting character, i'm not super familiar with reds but this is a fun beer. has a great balance of malts and hops, id say with a stronger placement near the hop end of things. great beer, with a nice, intersting flavor profile.

Out of a bottle this beer was a dark garnet color. The head was two full fingers worth, the retention was good especially as a skim and the lacing was in chunks at first then in fishnets. The aroma was a nice balance of malt and hops that otherwise was unremarkable. The flavors were very nutty, starting with pale malt it then went into toasted malt and lots of nuts followed by the balancing hops that were mostly herbal. The mouthfeel was slightly slick and watery, the body medium and the carbonation medium to light. Though it was a well-balanced beer and probably sessionable it still needs work on some of the details.

Good to see another beer coming from Kennebec River.

Pours a very dark copper/amber color, darker than most red ales but it looks good, decent sized head that fades fast and leaves some patchy lacing.

Smell is mostly malty with a hint of hoppiness.

Taste has a good bite to it, not really in a strength sense but in the crispness, a good balance of malt and slight bitterness, carbonation might be a tad high but it really makes this beer sharp.

Pleasantly surprised by this one.
