Knowing Trap Door Brewing, I'm sure there's some clever reference for the name of this beer. I just don't know what it is. Not that it matters. On tap at John's market today...
The beer pours an attractive hazy golden amber color with good head retention and lacing. The nose delivers what I've come to expect in a hazy IPA, showcasing tropical fruit and noticeable orange/grapefruit citrus. It's nice, but there's nothing striking. However, much to my surprise, this beer is outstanding on the palate. Yes, the flavor profile replicates the nose, but there's decent bitterness on the finish, and none of the aspirin flavor I so often pick up on the finish with hazy IPA's. Also, unlike many NE style IPA's, there actually IS a finish in this well crafted beer. Mouthfeel is fairly full, with a long, tropical fruit infused finish. Alcohol is well integrated into the flavor profile, and drinkability is quite good.
In an ocean of largely mediocre hazy IPA's being made these days, this beer stands out as one of the better ones I've tried of late. This beer is recommended.
