A hoppy and tropical IPA is what I've been wanting from Woodlands and looks like I got one. Here we go!
A- Cosmos pours a vibrant golden orange with layers of copper shining throughout. Bold and hazy at the same time. Tan foam floats across the head of the brew, while web like foam meshes to the edges. Certainly I'm getting the opening act of how a Citric forward IPA should look
S- there it is. A blast of mango, citrus, and melon IPA scent. I'll go a step forward and say a New England IPA scent profile. No malt! All hops! And yes, this is what the current scene is. An all hop tropical theme for an IPA. Sweet on the exit as well
T- excellent... A tropical citric entrance that partnered with some pine. There is an onslaught of bitterness that occurs immediately. Let's talk about this: NE's key to IPAs is to tone back the bitterness and replace with pineapple sweetness (and never an inch of malt). Cosmos is delicious and malt free, however the bitterness is present. Nothing wrong with that, but I like to dial that back (like a hill farmstead IPA). Nevertheless, best woodlands taste profile yet
M- coated stinging of piney resin hops. Excellent feel that's Coates your tongue in hops!
O- Woodlands is into something here! I am a little bias w IPAs being like NE or a Russian River theme. This is almost there and I will be seeking more!
