5 oz brewery pour.
Amber-brown color with lighter shades up the sides, small ring of head.
Some mild brown sugar on the nose with hints of pine, herb, fig, and raisin.
Flavor is a bit of an anomaly. Advertised as a malt bomb, I'd say it's more balanced than anything. It starts with a general malt sweetness, with slight raisin, hop burn, some grassiness - I'm actually searching FOR the Barleywine in this beer, something to tell me it is; but then finally at the finish the familiar Barleywine bite pops up. It takes effort to find it.
Feel is numbing, seems to be a continual thing with WG's beers; prickly carbonation, slick and oily feel, medium body cut a touch thinner from the alcohol. Hot and dry finish with lingering resins.
Overall, I found myself struggling to connect with this one. I'd probably pass next time.
Edit : As it warms, I get more fig/cherry/wood and it grabs me a little more. Scores adjusted.
