Poured into a MacAndrew's thistle glass. Pours a very dark reddish brown with a fine, two finger khaki head with great retention and solid lacing. Looks nice. Aroma of caramel and biscuit malt, raisins, dates, light plum light smoked peat. Flavor follows, with dry caramel and biscuit malt, raisins, dates, a hint of dried plum and light peat smoke; a little hop bitterness with the lingering peat smoke in the finish. Medium bodied with moderate creaminess, nice mouth feel. This was my favorite from a handful of tasters at the brewpub and I'm still pleased with it. I hits all the style characteristics with a nice blend of caramel and biscuit malt and good dried fruit character too. The peat is bit dialed back, but present and leaves a nice aftertaste. Not intense enough to be a Wee Heavy, but well balanced and sippable. I'd have wished for a bit more peat smoke and perhaps a little more flavor density, but the overall nice flavors and balance won me over. Nicely done and worthy.
