a friend returned from uruguay with this bottle for me, and i was curious to find out what was brewing in south america. this beer does not have loads of character, but i suppose it would be a welcome change from the macrolagers that dominate the market down south. pours a coppery amber tone, with a full, effervescent, white head. nose has light english fruitiness, with a definite note of raisin and brown sugar from the malts,. i pick up more of the malt characteristics across the tongue, with something akin to stewed plums or peach cobbler coming to mind. the finish is medium dry, with bitterness coming out at the end. aromatic hops are subdued (especially given the abundance of the dry hopped wonders native to SoCal), to be sure, but it is an english pale afterall. mouthfeel is initially thin, but the highly carbonated brew provides some pleasing tingly texture on the tongue. reminds me of a solid homebrew that may have a few kinks to work out.
