August 12th, 2016 - I don't think this beer was called "Bear Heart" when I first tried it in 2016, but the recipe has been consistent (as far as I can tell.) The aroma begins with a strong smokiness that is pronouncedly stronger than other scotch ales, with a peat note that feels borrowed from Scotland. The flavor is milder than the aroma, but still features the smoky quality. Overall, it gives the impression of a smoky ESB, lighter bodied and finishing with an interesting peanut butter flavor.
