Pours a calm looking amber color with a smallish head.
Smells of citrusy hops, particularly grapefruit.
There is quite a bit of good things going on in this brew. There is a pleasant citrusy sweetness, and the hops balance it out in a solid manner. The mouthfeel is light and the carbonation is perfect. Surprisingly drinkable for the ABV. Yet, I can't get away from the feeling that this feels like a great beer that has been diluted. This feels like a glorious 10% DIPA were someone decided to decrease the alcohol-percentage by making it less interesting.
I've had quite a few beers like this from new and promising breweries. Rock-solid, yet it feels like there is a degree of conservatism that holds it back from being truly great. Nevertheless, when I see West Coast Bryggeri on the shelve next time, I'm going to try it out.
