I’ve had a few Russian beers so far to be honest but none of them (okay, let’s be precise, most of them) have been this good. This is a pretty decent lager. This usually comes as a conclusion for a review but I felt I had to share this first because it is the most important thing about this beer - it’s good! Not that most Russian beers aren’t but the ones I’ve had, Baltikas, Bochkas and the like were much more mediocre than this one.
This beer looks good, smells good (quite neutral but rather hoppy if you like) and tastes absolutely alright. A bit maltier than your average lager but perfectly good, no foul taste or aftertaste that lingers on, it is just a very well balanced combo of malt and tasty hops with lightly dense carbonation - just how I prefer my lagers.
Actually it’s a pity that it isn’t brewed anymore... I might go back to that store and buy up what they have left still.

Standard brown bottle with a red, white and blue label featuring some bearded guy holding a big mug with a lot of foam. Corn and sugar are ingredients. Unpasteurized. Best before 6/9/04, I opened it on 3/11/04.
Pours a fairly deep clear gold under a one finger white head that was quick to fade to film and left no lace. The nose is mild and malty - no sign of the corn. The carbonation and body are both medium - no extremes here. The taste is good, smooth and malty, followed by a slight hoppy bite, vaguely metallic but not at all unpleasant. This is an utterly unimaginative macro, but a pretty good one.
