My wife and I dropped by this brewery on a recent tryto Kansas City. The ambiance is incredible. Western themed with lots of character. The beer was fresh and flavorful. The servers were hard working and knowledgeable. I really enjoyed this place and would recommend it to anyone in KC.

Stockyards is situated in the heart of the cattle exchange area, which has a rich heritage in cows and beef. Stockyards itself is in an old fabled steakhouse building. It maintains the decorations of the old steakhouse, with tin ceiling, an ornate, old time bar, and a panorama painted scene of cowboys and such on the wall. Most everything is wood paneled and old school. The brew equipment has been added off center of the full space so consumers can walk around 3/4 of it. Beer is of good quality, with a fair selection. All beers are tap are their own, so for drinkers seeking a heavy stout or a DIPA, look/call ahead to see if they have theirs on tap. Service was kind and helpful, but reserved only to the bar.

This was originally a steak house that was converted to a brewery. Lots of hipster, beards glore. Myself being over fourty dont give a $%@! about all that. The beer was respectable, the Alt is a standout. It was clean. They tried to keep alot of the vintage feel of the place which I like. A progressive look forward with a nod of respect to the past. I will be visiting again.

Normally I wouldn't post a review like this, but wanted to share my experience as a heads up, just in case others may attempt to show up here later in the evening. I'll update it when I visit Stockyards again.
We drove across town to check out this new KC brewery on a Thursday, and arrived just after 10pm. Closing time was 11pm according to the door sign, the lights were on with staff moving around inside. The space looked nice with lots of rustic reclaimed wood. Door was locked. Ok I thought, it's a deserted area, maybe it's locked as a safety precaution.
A staff person comes up to the door while we were standing there waiting, flips the closed sign and walks away. Zero acknowledgment of any kind. Pretty lame. If it were some kind of emergency or any reason given, i'd understand. If you can't be bothered to even acknowledge your customers with a simple "sorry we're closed", you don't deserve them.
We went across the street to Voltaire instead, where they had a few good craft taps and cocktails. Not high on my list to return, but will make it back eventually to amend this review.
They have since changed their closing hours to 10pm Tue-Thu, 12am Fri-Sat, and 8pm on Sun. If you're going to change your hours, make sure your online presence reflects this, otherwise you risk losing customers.

such a cool place, they apparently turned one of those old midwestern fancy steak houses into this brewery after the restaurant didnt make it. cool part of town too, and they have done a great job retaining a lot of character in here, brass rail bar, mirrors and wood all back there, leather and finished wood, old frontier paintings, and the brewhouse in the back, its dim lit and romantic feeling, a neat repurposing of the space for sure, comfortable and cool inside. an wonderful respite from the kansas city summer heat. they had maybe seven or eight of their own beers, a nice black ipa, a solid hoppy pils, and a cool saison. the best of their beers was a golden alt, which nobody else makes and was absolutely delicious. they had some cool guest beers (and cider) on tap as well, all local stuff. service was young and eager, they just opened from what i understand, lots of enthusiasm. the brewery looks decent sized through the door to the brew house, they should take off pretty quickly with beer this good. an odd clientele, mostly beer tour busses and royals fans pregaming, but a very cool place to spend a few hours drinking fresh local beer. inventive enough to be interesting, still quite well executed for being so new...
