Brewery Techne "Alchemy"
on tap @ Bar Hygge on 27 February 2016
$4 / 10 oz. and $6 / 13 oz
Notes: Baltic porter with balsamic vinegar added (I think aged in oak?). Limited aroma of molasses, chocolate and roastiness. The flavor follows, and it's malty with the balsamic balancing. Both the acidic and herbal components of the balsamic reappear in the finish adding to its bitter edge. It's overall balanced and smooth but with a peak in the middle due to the balsamic that gives it interest and breaks it up - not that a smooth, "straight through" beer is bad, just that this is more interesting of a ride. Velvety on the tongue. Medium to somewhat dextrinous, almost medium-full body. Really interesting! I was trepidatious at first, but it really works.
