Brewed in honor of the black yak, a symbol of strength and fortitude in Tibetan culture, Black Yak has all the power and spirit of a charging wild beast. Brewed with Highland Qingker Barley and black and caramel malts, Black Yak has supple coffee bean and dark chocolate overtones. Open a bottle and let the Yak out.

330ml bottle poured into a pint glass.
It pours rather clear mahogany brown color with a finger of frothy tan head as a showcase. The head stays for a while before sinking to some bubble sheet on the surface and leaving some lacing patch.
The aroma discloses sweet caramel as the first breakthrough. Then here comes malty goodness of roasted coffee, dark chocolate, brown bread, treacle, toffee, and burnt sugar. There is also mild fruity note hidden in, quite aromatic overall.
The taste is a bit let down comparing to the aroma. It is still mainly dominated by roasted malt and roasted coffee which is also sour at times. Caramel, brown bread, toffee, burnt sugar, and mild fruit follow closely thereafter while the end has some bitterness mostly from roasted profile.
Medium body with some smoothness and moderate carbonation, the feeling is a little bit crisp with a dry finish. Okay. Go let the yak out.

This is a great beer. I get it often in Lijiang, Yunnan, China. It's from a brewery just up the road from here, so a lot of restaurants in Lijiang are beginning to carry it more regularly. This beer is a very dark porter. It has hints of caramel, chocolate, and coffee balanced with just the right amount of carbonation. It's very smooth to drink and leaves you wanting more. I highly recommend it.
