Had on tap. Like heavy metal itself, this beer is uncompromising, destroying all palates in its path! Rye, wood, hard whiskey, cocoa, molasses, corn, roasted malt, and fig come crashing in. The body really can't stand up to the intensity and gives in halfway through the sip resulting in thinner whiskey soaked wood and rye flavors to finish. Tastes boozier than actually is.

22 ounce bottle into a snifter. Bottled April, 2017, had 2/1/18. Also had on tap at release. Aged in Journeyman rye barrels.

Pours a deep brown, opaque and oily looking, with a half inch head and very spotty lacing. Aromas of rye whiskey, malt, chocolate, cocoa, caramel, oak, raisins, figs. The taste is mostly similar: rye whiskey, malt, chocolate, cocoa, oak, caramel, light vanilla, some figs. Smooth, a good full body, well carbonated.

Solid effort. The rye barrels are terrific, great flavor and aroma overall. There’s a lot of depth here, for 9.2%.

Taste: Big rye notes, woody oak barrel, roasted almost smokey malts. Softer mouth-feel than the sister beer aged in bourbon barrels. Rye barrels like this one seem a more rounded. Deep toasted rye and malt nose with some boozy in nose. Black, opaque, refined lace to delicate head. Full body but not at all heavy. 49 IBUs
