16oz can, no apparent freshness date. Near black ale with a foamy light brown head that holds good retention. Roasty aroma with plenty of hop presence; dark chocolate, coffee, and toasted grain in the nose as well. Bold flavors of roasted barley, ashy patent malt, dark baker's chocolate, dark coffee, caramel, zesty citrus, dank pine, and earthy hops. Full resinous body, a little ashy and chalky, bitter roast and pine linger on the bitter finish. It's been awhile since I had a black IPA because nobody seems to brew them much. It was nice to have one again, but this wasn't my favorite.
