Got this one from my neighbor for my 40th a while back. Cheers!
From a 33cl bottle into a snifter
APPEARANCE: Slow foamer upon opening. Had to be quick. A very, very careful pour yields a three finger, foamy, fluffy white head with excellent retention. Lots of floaties came out on the pour. Clear maroon read with piles and piles of carbonation. Head slowly recedes to a big, thick, foamy cap and clings to the glass. Thick foam remains until the end leaving lots of foamy lacing down the glass as it empties.
SMELL: Caramel, toffee, lots of red fruits, hay and grass, with some melon and cantaloupe aromas on the nose. Bold, with a touch of booze.
TASTE: Caramel, toffee, melon and red fruits up front, with a good dose of alcohol as well. Bold and flavorful. Strong finish of sweet candy, caramel and toffee sweetness, fruity flavors, melon, some hay and grass, as well as some hop bitterness lingers on the palate. A decent dose of booze as well.
PALATE: Lighter body and very high levels of carbonation. Foamy and fizzy on the palate, goes down fine with a bit of a burn and finishes somewhat mouth-coating. A good amount of heat lingers.
OVERALL: This had lots of promise, but the lousy finishing left this one overcarbonated and far too light and foamy to be truly enjoyable. The nose and flavor worked out really well, but it’s too foamy and airy, in both the look and feel, to support the main act here. Definitely worth checking out a future batch of this, because with the right finishing touch, this could be really good. Thanks again for the gifts!
