random bottle shop pickup in alaska, a long way for a smoked ale with avocado honey from mexico to travel, but this is fun and different and it had to be tried! amber colored with some obvious body, some lace but a slow fade on the just off white head, neither clear nor messy. the nose is cool though, real different, a little tight when cold but then it opens into campfire smoke, fig and tobacco, brown sugar and maple, and a cool almost jasmine floral aspect, the avocado flower honey must be. the flavor comes in waves, really unique enough to throw me off, unfamiliar smoke, not european to me, slightly peaty but also nutty, wet and saturated and woody, sweet from the honey with floral and melon notes, then all of a sudden sour, like a quick turn into astringency, this either isnt fresh or the yeast is messed up, and its a turn off very late in a beer that until this point is way cool. i do get and appreciate that the honey is different in this, and i love that, and the honey with the smoke is epic, tons of promise there, even the overall execution and build is good, like the richer malt and the body make sense, the little bit of bready yeast is fine, and the faint peppery and raisin nuance makes it distinct, but the fact this goes tart when it does hurts it for me. the honey rushes back and after the swallow and honestly does have some avocado peel essence, i get that part, almond and hickory and light cocoa too, but the acidity is out of place in this, transforms the smoke to harsh, and kills the richness this tries to build. some tamarind essence here somehow. im rating it highly except for the mouthfeel because i love the ingredients and the plan and it being exotic, but they ferment needs cleaning up. ill look for more from these guys though, this is exciting and weird and clever...

Poured into a Fremont small snifter. Pours a slightly hazy, medium to dark brownish orange (similar to honey, interestingly) with a fine three finger light khaki head with great retention and solid lacing; looks nice. Aroma of biscuit and bready malt, smoke, black tea and honey. Flavor is grainy malt with wheat notes, saison style yeast, smoke, husky grains. Medium bodied with light creaminess. An interesting smoked ale that is drier than I expected; the honey must be mostly attenuated with only a little honey flavor. The malt tastes similar to a wheat or light saison malt as does the yeast. It kind of reminds me of a grodziskie but less tart. The smoke is mild to moderate, which is appropriate for lighter malt smoked beer in my opinion. Interesting and unique. It piqued my interest in this brewery; this is an unusual and different style to come from a Mexican brewery.

This one pours a dark-ish brown color, with a small head, and a little bit of lacing.
This smells like honey, tea, lightly sweet breadiness, and a light smokiness.
The smokiness is pretty restrained in a nice way here, pleasantly warming, and lightly sweet. There’s some honey and breadiness, with a touch of herbal almost like tea-like character on the finish.
This is light bodied, a little bit thin, but tasty and smooth in the end.
For something that was smoked and brewed with avocado flower honey, this ended up being surprisingly simple and easy drinking. I definitely enjoyed it.
