Based on a 13th Century Recipe, the Rotbier (meaning “red beer”) is malt-forward with a hop balance. Featuring Vienna, Munich and Caramel malt, as well as wheat malt and flaked barley, with Cascade hops for bittering. Bitter but balanced.

Smells of Candy Orange, touch of pine and rich Munich malt

Dirigo's website calls this "bitter, but balanced". I couldn't agree more. The malt subtly offsets the bitter, and the hops are balanced with both. This could easily have been overdone, but Dirigo gets it just right.

12 oz pour poured into a tulip glass on tap.
A: Deep almost black brown body with a red hue. almost no head body is hazy but more from color than imperfection.
S: deep rich bitter hops lots of pine resin and deep rich coppery malts with a metallic hint.
T: this has a great resins piniey Hop presence than huge sweet caramel malts come on and round out this amber nicely.
M: Medium bodied lower carbonation.
O: Amazing how well this red ale rounds itself out. The malts on the ass end make this beer almost perfect with a very enjoyable raisin fig aftertaste.
