Pours an opaque pale straw gold color with a dense, silky 2 finger head with good retention. Good start.
The aroma is rich and pungent with dank tangerine and pine notes. I can';t stress enough how great the balance is with these three. It comes across as bright, fresh and smelling like a dank glass of juice. This is getting even better.
The flavor wants its grapefruit pith and pine notes to come through but the dank flavor intrudes and throws off the balance IMO. If you love dank then this will be a treat for you. I don't mind it but it is overdone in this case. There is very little sweetness to counteract the bitter pith notes so it comes across as a different beer than the NEIPA you might expect. Supposedly there is passion fruit and guava in this but I can't really tell.
The feel is very soft and thick but becomes watery in the finish.
This is just so good on many levels and you will want to adjust your expectations with the flavor. It is piquant and bright, not sweet and dense. The dank is something I don't like as much but don't read that as a bad review because it is a distinct beer in itself that deserves a chance, so buy it. Mast Landing is known for trying out different flavors than the rest up in Portland.
