Gazing into the waves of the massive Atlantic can bring about a sense of possibility, serenity, or clarity - sometimes all at once. With our newest recipe, we looked to the expansive scope of the IPA category and created a refined nod to what inspires us about it.

Oceans is guided by dual tides of Citra and Strata, using a double dry hop to accentuate punchy notes of tropical and citrus fruit, with a subtle touch of bitterness to round things out. At 6.5% ABV it ebbs and flows with many of the hop-forward qualities we seek in a beer that can be enjoyed multiple times over. Relatable, yet intriguing all the same.

Outstanding again? I dunno, maybe I should not rate IPAs anymore as my love for them has waned recently. This is mediocre to me. Little skunky on finish. Again, mixed with 20% KCBS iceberg zombie (which props to them, really helps these last two). I love Maine!

Update 8/23: “Props”. Ashamed.

I concider New England "local" for me. 603. Mast Landing has been the most consistently impressive that I call local. This thing is dense, sweet, creamy, complex hop dream of peach, pineapple and lush earthy undertones. Dang.

Poured from 16oz tall can into a tulip. Canned 5/28/20.

Appearance: murky medium-yellow hue with a finger of frothy ivory foam atop. Haziness is in now, right?

Smell: very juicy and tropical; I'm thinking of guava and maybe dragonfruit. It's got an earthy balance and just a hint of citrus; I like it quite a lot.

Taste: a little earthier and less fruit-juicy than the aroma, but still quite nice. Guava and papaya come to mind, perhaps a little grapefruit as well. Bitterness is not strong but it's present-enough to know you're drinking an IPA. I like it.

Mouthfeel: medium body with a good level of carbonation and creaminess.

Overall: I like this beer; it's a solid IPA. I would like it even more if the flavor tracked the aroma just a little bit better.

05/28/20 6.5% ABV BATCH 1 16:35 stamped on bottom of can. Poured into a Samuel Adams Perfect Pint.

A: Hazy tangerine juice hue with 1-finger of foamy off-white head with decent retention and a collar of lacing. Great can art — looks like it came off a Hobie shirt from the old days.

S: High levels of pineapple, tangerine, and lemon-lime with a not so pleasant hint of BO with agitation. A lot of candied orange slice and hint of honeysuckle herbal note.

T: Delicious fruity flavor with a heavy citrus push from the tangerine, orange, lemon-lime, and pineapple budging in there too. Light bitterness (but enough) and floral esters.

M: Soft without being chalky, moderate carbonation that seems like it could be dialed down a tad to increase the lushness. Medium body.

O: A nice NEIPA, perhaps not the most distinctive, but still very drinkable and hits a lot of nice hop notes with a solid malt backbone.

Pours a large foamy frothy 2 finger head with great retention, soapy lacing, hazy cloudy pale orange color

Nose brings lots of citrus and tropical fruit, mango sorbet, orange cream, juicy citra, light creamy doughy malt, tangerine

Taste brings more citrus up front, big juicy orange, orange cream, tangerine, into mango and mango sorbet, hint guava papaya notes, creamy base malt, soft minerals make it very juicy, little sweet orange peel, light bitterness, drier finish with a flash of alcohol

Mouth is med bod, quite juicy creamy lush, med-higher foamy carb

Overall pretty solid DDH NEIPA, great citra characters, strata adds similar so yeah, good base malts and flaked proteins, nice water additions, well done and enjoyable NEIPA
