A murky, purplish fuchsia beer has commandeered my Pretentious Glass Company pub tulip glass. Three inches of off-white foam form a stark contrast that slowly settles, leaving rafts of seafoam lace and none of the anticipated sticky film.
If one is expecting blueberries and raspberries, then one will be pleasantly overwhelmed. This fruit is quickly followed by mild sourness and a dull paper cut in the nose.
The flavor can be said to be exactly what one would expect from the aroma. The fruit is very pleasant. Sourness is subtle and perhaps a half step back from the sweetness. The finish is mild and quick.
A full bodied beer with a silky smooth texture. Alcohol, while light, is more present than expected, as is the fizzy carbonation.
When in Maine, lobster and blueberries seem to be ubiquitous. This beer is certainly one of the better blueberry beers I have enjoyed. As a Fruited Kettle Sour this is on the mild end of the spectrum. It can be enjoyed on its own merits, regardless of the Style Guide.
