Collaboration with Mortalis Brewing, NY.

It took all we could muster to get in shape for our first collab with the Mortalis crew. Months and months of work went into this project. Running up and down stairs, sweating through hard workouts, mastering the blender. Strawberries, raspberries, and Concord grapes meet the ooey gooey goodness of fluff. It's worth the work to enjoy this Training Montage.

What an odd-looking beer this is. Deep reddish-purple and murky with khaki color chunks of… something… in suspension. A think fuchsia head briefly holds 1/4" and leaves no lace. In place of lacing there is a clear, sticky residue coating the glass with particulates glued in to boot. My delicate little Simpli fisheye pint glass is saying, "ewwww!"

The aroma is incredibly sweet, like fruit punch. Strawberry and raspberry are strong components. Marshmallow is obvious, but only because I knew to expect it. Did I mention it is sweet, like red Hawaiian Punch?

Yikes! The sweetness is offensively strong, like a jack hammer on my teeth. This is nothing remotely similar to beer. The strawberries and raspberries are joined by boysenberries, adding tartness that competes with and loses to the sweetness. The finish is long and sweet, of course, then turns tart as it clings to the palate.

The body is dense, with the texture of hot jelly (only it is cold). Carbonation struggles to escape the viscosity of this "beer." alcohol is apparent in effect, with no sensation in aroma flavor or feel.

One may notice the score here is pretty high. That is because I liked it. I liked it despite, possible because of all the weirdness going on in the glass. The berry flavors are a rocket ship of experience, so maybe this is best suited for a summer brunch or dessert. The tartness really does save the beer, at least sowing some intention of moderating the sweetness.
