Introducing our latest collaboration beer with our friends at Yakima Chief Hops, A Pinch Of Grace. This West Coast style IPA was brewed with new Centennial 701 & 702 trial hop extracts that deliver an amazing amount of hop character in an extremely condensed package. It's incredible what this product can do for a beer and we're excited to use it in more new recipes moving forward. You'll find bold notes of peach, stone fruit, citrus, and a touch of resin.

A Pinch of Grace

Mast Landing Brewing Co.

IPA - American

This one is intriguing. Yakima Chief brand hop extracts (Same YC that produced evaporated apples I believe?) Bring a light hop juice. Stone fruit, watercress, red current, and a light grainy malt for balance. Floral sweetness in the nose. Stylistically this is just odd. West Coast style is malty with high alpha acid style hops that make your face pucker with earthy bitterness, this is not that. It certainly has its charms, but definitely a bit peculiar.

Pours a nearly clear golden yellow color with a frisky soapy white head. Minimal persistence, modest cling to the glass. Ends up as a wide ring and a couple of rafts.

Smell...strong peach and apricot, substantial grapefruit and a little orange, a little resinous note at the end.

The taste is perfectly powerful peach initially, then equally powerful grapefruit both juicy and "rindy". Very little malt character, but there's a bit of crackery maltiness. Bitterness comes and goes but is present at the finish. The aftertaste is a fade out of peach, grapefruit, and a bit of resin as the main flavors fade.

Feel is light and lively. There's a bit of tongue-coating numbness and a lingering citrus peel sensation.

Overall, it doesn't seem all that special to me, fairly typical WC IPA. It's good, but could use a bit more maltiness in my opinion. I'm not sure whether the hop extracts are bringing anything to the party that matters to the consumer beyond what a WC IPA brewed conventionally delivers.
