Appearance: Very dark brown with a modest-sized medium beige head that faded fairly quickly. Good looking beer.
Smell: Mild bourbon, brown sugar, and mild fruity notes. The nose is dominated by the mild Bourbon barrel aromas.
Taste: Mild Bourbon notes followed by roasted malts notes, brown sugar, and tannic oak notes. I pick up some mild dark fruit notes as well. The finish is fairly dry ending with some woody notes.
Mouth-feel: Light side of medium-bodied with a moderate level of carbonation. Not the thickest Imperial stout but not too bad.
Overall: Pretty good beer but my preference in bal-aged beers is for them to feature prominent bal-aging notes that come from lengthy barrel contact time. The bal-aging in this beer is there but more subdued than my favorite examples.
