a robust construction on this porter, english in malt character to me, lots of chocolate and molasses notes, and a ton of coffee too, this is bold beer, much sweeter than i wanted it to be, but potentially a nice morning beer here. its deep and dark and a little syrupy in texture from the tap. the aroma is strong coffee, i believe its ethoipian they use, and it has chocolate and caramel and even maple character to contribute, i almost thought this was also dosed with maple syrup to make a breakfast type porter, but i dont believe it is, its all from the coffee! chocolate syrup richness to this, hard to drink a lot of, especially on a hangover, but the bold coffee character is neat, its fresh in here, its low acidity, and its not all that deeply roasty. interestingly there is some hop bitterness here, unexpected in a beer like this, especially being so sweet, but there is at least an effort toward balance. nice as a sipper to get me going again, definitely a caffeine kick to this, sturdy construction. good but not great overall, too sweet to be drinkable in any quantity.
