Poured to a tulip glass.
A: The body is coppery and crystalline. The head is beige, minimal and shows some good retention though no lacing.
S: The aroma is very compelling of strong malts, belgian candi and some other sweetness coming in from I-Don't-Know-Where. But's it's very delicate.
T: The taste begins with the belgian candi sweetness, which, by the way, is very strong and then turns to the maltiness and the light roastiness of the malt itself. The aroma was much more delicate but the flavour still wins some points on how structured it is. Though I'd personally prefer a less prominent sweet profile here.
M: Body is medium. Carbonation is low. Alcohol, at 10.5% ABV, is, of course, noticeable. Bitterness is mild and very good but the aftertaste is a little burnt. Almost there.
O: I guess this is the very first portuguese Old Ale I drink and I'm very excited with it. Old Ales and Barleywines are very sophisticated beer styles and getting to tame them is another step on a brew culture. Looking forward for this.
