Brewed in collaboration with Is/Was Brewing
Bière de Coupage is the tradition of blending fresh, young, beer with aged/matured beer. In this context 'Coupage' means to 'cut' or 'blend'. Traditionally, a fresh, often hoppy 'Bière à Coupage', or 'Beer for Blending' would be brewed then blended with aged beer to create the 'Bière de Coupage', or 'Beer from Blending'. Typically only the blended 'Bière de Coupage' would be consumed but we took the approach to deconstruct it so you can drink the different components that go into blending the 'Bière de Coupage' next to each other.
Both breweries brewed the same base beer that featured malted Carolina Gold rice from Sugar Creek Malt and Hallertau Blanc hops. Then Hopewell blended their fresh 'Bière à Coupage' with oak aged wild ale to create a true and traditional 'Bière de Coupage'.
