Super hoppy and great bitterness. Clean color. Not much head.

Dead Lizard Brewing Co. "Humpity Pumpity Double IPA"
$25/4-pk of 16 fl. oz cans
Notes via stream of consciousness: I tried this earlier today at the brewery and decided I needed to buy a 4-pk to take home. A rough pour has brought up a two inch tall head of rocky, slightly off-white foam. The body is a clear copper. The label reads 8.2% ABV, the menu listed it as 8.7%, and BA has it as 8.5% so I'm not sure what it is, but you get the idea. The aroma is floral and fruity with apple, grapefruit, and orange over a grainy malt. A flicker of pine helps to round it out. It's not a bold hop aroma but it still suffices. The flavor reveals a honeyish and gently caramelish malt that works as s great support for the hoppy and yeasty fruitiness. The label suggests that it contains 163 IBUs but that's just a calculation, and as a professional, I have to wonder how they even came up with that. It comes across as being more like 60 or so IBUs. It's really nicely balanced, and the sweetish malt quickly fades in the finish leaving behind just a dollop of honeyish goodness, and some soft pine and herbs as the bitterness rises. Double IPAs can often be a bit too sweet but that's not the case here. Looking back, the head has dropped to a thin but mostly solid surface covering, and it's left some very nice, solid sheets of lace along the sides of the glass. In the mouth it's medium bodied and crisp with a fine-bubbled, standard carbonation. It's a solid, well-made double IPA that satisfies.
