Ruby brown where light passes through the center of the glass. Lumpy head which leaves 3D lace on the glass.
Strong iron aroma. So much so that I do not detect any chocolate or other brown ale smells. Disappointing.
The flavor is an improvement. The metallic element is muted but still present. Darker malt flavor dominates. Short finish but it features deeply toasted barley malt. Decent body for the style. Moderate carbonation.
If you get by the smell, this isn't a bad brown ale.
